Do VPNs really fix lag and disconnections, or do they make them worse? We tested 918Kiss with and without a VPN and recorded what actually happened.

We played identical sessions on the same phone and network - once direct, once through a VPN - measuring ping, jitter and the number of dropped connections. Each test ran at the same time of day to keep conditions fair and comparable.

A fast, nearby VPN server added only a few milliseconds and, on an otherwise stable line, changed nothing about disconnections. A slow or distant server was the opposite: latency and jitter jumped, and dropped sessions actually increased. The server choice mattered far more than the VPN itself.

A reputable VPN helps most on untrusted public Wi-Fi, where encryption protects your data. It hurts when you route through a far-away country, use a free VPN, or add an unstable hop to already-poor mobile data. If your connection is fine, a VPN rarely improves it.
